Brooke Shaden

Hi guys!!

I'm so sorry I haven't written a blog post for a long time... But here I am! I hope I can keep up writing things on here for you :)

So, probably many of you have heard about Brooke Shaden or seen her work, but for those who don't know her, here's a blog post about her, 'cause that girl is an amazingly talented photographer! I guess it's not necessary to tell that she's one of my favourite photographers :D... Ok, I know, I know... I just did it xD

So, here we go! ;)

Brooke Shaden was born in March of 1987 in USA. She started taking photographs in 2008, after graduating with two degrees: film and English. She began creating self-portraits for ease and to have full control over the images, and has since then grown into a self-portrait artist. Self portraiture for her is not autobiographical in nature. Instead, she attempts to place herself within worlds she wishes we could live in, where secrets float out in the open, where the impossible becomes possible.

What she likes most is to create different worlds in her photos and, instead of depicting beautiful stuff, she prefers to find the beauty in the dark, because there's not the one without the other. Her photography questions the definition of what it means to be alive.

About how she edits her images, they're mostly dark, desaturated and kind of painterly, and always, always, with a square format.

Her images are really artistic, they always have a concept, and that's why she's a great inspiration source. Actually, you'll clearly find her influence in some of my images.

I encourage you to go watch her Flickr gallery and immerse in her world ;)
You can also go into her:

As a curiosity: she's fishes, like me! :D
I hope you liked her work, and I promise to write a new blog post soon :)

Regards,
The Curious Look ;)

How I got into photography =)

Hi everyone!

As the title says, I'm going to talk about how my passion for photography started, and introduce myself a little bit.

My name is Laura Ballesteros and a year ago I finished my Artistic Photography studies. I have this special feelings for arts, in fact, when I was 5 years old I started to attend ballet lessons, until I had a problem with my knee at the age of 18 and had to go through surgery. That ruined my future plans (I wanted to study Musical Theatre, but it has many dance disciplines, and I can't afford that anymore). I've also liked photography since I was a kid. At first I took my mom's camera (but she dind't let me use it...). And then I got my first camera at the age of 11 (if I remember right, haha) and it was an automatic film camera that took panoramic photographs.

The Panorama! ^^

I got my second camera when I was in highschool, a simple digital compact camera that has suffered pretty much, lol.

My Casio Exilim which has got me out of the hook so many times!

During my penultimate year of highshool I met a girl who was also into photography and, before I met her, I just liked photography but, thanks to her, photography became a big hobby. I say "hobby" because I don't really know if I want to do it for a living. I love it, don't get me wrong, I'll probably be taking photos for the rest of my life, but there are other things that I like and I don't want to stop exploring.

So, about my cameras, the third one (the one I use most) is my beloved Nikon D40X reflex camera. It's been with me during all my Photography studies, and for the moment it hasn't complained so, thanks dear camera!! Lol xD. It's not the best of the best, it's not a professional one, but in a way I think that it's not important what you use, but how you use it ;). And although I'll probably need to buy a new one to obtain better quality, I know for sure that my Nikon is my favourite "baby" =).

With my Nikon!! =D

So, after telling you all my life, I hope you're not bored xD

Regards,
The Curious Look ;)

Ps.: while I was writing this post, I looked for my panoramic film camera and, guess what... There still was a film in it! I wonder what photographs there are…

First blog post!

Hi everyone!

I already have a blog, but it's in Spanish, so I've decided to start this blog for my followers who don't understand Spanish =). This is something I've been thinking about for a while, and since I have plenty of free time I thought it was great to do it. And it's also a perfect way to improve my English skills ;).

I'll be catching up with my posts of my Spanish blog translating and posting them here.

I hope you'll enjoy your visits to my blog! I'll try not to be too serious or boring ;)

Regards!
